CSA BOARD
President's Message
It is my
pleasure to be assuming the role of CSA President for
2006-2007, and I'm genuinely excited about the year
ahead. I wouldn't be doing my duty if I first didn't
recognize the spirit, enthusiasm and dedication
provided by the Board members that have recently
retired. The league owes a debt of gratitude to
Leland Peneku who served as President for two years:
Thank you for your warmth, your leadership and your
enduring heartfelt efforts on behalf of the girls of
Carlsbad Softball. Your spirit will live on in CSA
for a long, long time. Special thanks also go out to
Michelle Pahl (Secretary and Vice President), Craig
Pahl (Field Maintenance and Equipment Coordinator),
Rob Mekjian (Treasurer and creator of the "Rob Dog
Special"), Michelle Nirschl (League Coordinator) and
Karen Batchelder (Snack Bar Manager). These persons
volunteered countless hours to Carlsbad Softball so
that the softball playing girls would have an awesome
experience. The current Board will miss you all!
I am
honored to be assuming the Presidency with a
complement of returning Board "veterans" and a great
group of Board "Rookies". I feel this new group will
blend together well and bring many exciting new
changes and events to CSA in the coming year. Some of
the goals of the Board for 2006/2007 include
construction of a batting cage at Calavera Park,
Online registration, and some new, fun league
activities. I thank the Board for voting me into
office and I will continue in my efforts to make
Carlsbad Softball the best girl's fastpitch program in
North County (if not all of San Diego!).
Board
Member Profile: Melissa Rivera
I'd like
to take this opportunity to introduce a new member of
the Carlsbad Softball Association Board...Melissa
Rivera.
Melissa
has graciously agreed to volunteer as CSA Publicity
Director for the coming year. She has extensive
experience in public relations and event coordination
and will be a welcome addition to the CSA Board. Her
responsibilities will include submitting articles,
photos and announcements regarding CSA events and
accomplishments to our local newspapers. She will
work with the Sponsor Coordinator and Events
Coordinator (Lizan Arzola) to assure that CSA gets as
much local publicity as possible.
In
addition, Melissa will be taking over the monthly
newsletters that I've been sending out over the past
couple of years. She will provide a fresh and fun
approach, and don't hesitate to contact her with
information and ideas.
New
Board Position: Volunteer Coordinator
Congratulations to Adrianne Gardner, who is the new
CSA Volunteer Coordinator. This newly created
position will help organize and coordinate volunteers
for CSA activities and fundraising events. We know
many of you are unable to spare significant time to be
on the Board, but are willing to contribute a few
hours a month in volunteer work to help the league.
Adrianne will be a point of contact by which you can
do that. Feel free to email Adrianne with your
contact info if you are willing to be a volunteer on
her list.
Adrianne
can be contacted at
adenault@adelphia.net.
GET
WELL SOON!
CSA would
like to send heartfelt well wishes to 10U player
Stevie Simpson, who was diagnosed with thyroid cancer
a while back and recently had to have her thyroid
gland removed. I'm happy to report that I saw Stevie
yesterday (riding her bike down my street!) and she is
doing wonderfully. Mom Stacie says that Stevie is
recovering well, and appreciates all the kindness that
the family has received from CSA friends and
neighbors. Judging by the sparkle I saw in Stevie's
smile, it is obvious she is feeling good.
The
families of CSA will keep Stevie and the Simpson
family in our thoughts and prayers.
Another
CSA family member on the mend is Buzz Keville, proud
owner of a brand new Titanium hip. Coach Buzz led the
12U all-stars to 7th place in this year's
State Tournament and is now recovering nicely from his
recent surgery. Get well soon Coach Buzz...I know
some 12-year old girls that want to see you up and
around soon because they have a little surprise for
you when you are feeling better. Can you say...
"determinations"? J
