Schedule of Junior Umpire Game Umpires for rest of March and April Preliminary
NEW RULE CHANGES:
New Rules (for 8U only) starting on April 1st. If you umpire an 8U game,
make sure you are aware of the new rules:
1. We will start allowing stolen bases during the 8U games. Players
can steal 2nd and 3rd base, BUT home plate will remain frozen.
- The runners can steal one base PER BATTER (not per pitch),
and they
can't advance extra bases on an errant catcher's throw at any time.
2. The second rule change will be the elimination of coach-pitch
(base on balls will be issued instead), UNLESS the bases are loaded.
- if the bases are loaded and the batter receives a walk, regular
coach pitching will occur in that situation.
The goal is that no
base-runners will be forced home as a result of a base-on-balls.
If you have any questions about the rule changes, please see me.
Make
sure you instruct the managers at the pre-game meeting about the new
rules starting April 1st.
Coach Bob

What is your call?
Before the pitch, there is a runner at
third and two outs. Batter hits a legally pitched ball towards first base.
First base fielder fields the ball in fair territory right in front of the
batter runner. Batter runner slows down running towards first base.
First base fielder runs towards batter
runner to apply a tag with the ball on the batter runner instead of
attempting a force out at first base. At the same time runner on third
runs home to step on home plate. Upon making the tag on the batter runner
for the third out, does the run scored count? (see answer below)
