DO NOT WAIT, as late registration may place you on a waiting list!
Don’t wait for that phone call from the Chaos coach if you have
not registered! Chaos coaches will only be contacting registered
players.
Online registration will also be available by linking at our web
site at www.carlsbadsoftball.com
Be prepared for registration by bringing the following:
Things to bring:
1. Your daughter’s birth certificate (for insurance purposes).
Note: If
your daughter played all-stars this year then you will not need her
birth certificate…we already have it on file.
2. Your check book. Cash will not be accepted for registration.
3. The usual information such as doctor and dentist’s name and phone
numbers, emergency contact phone numbers, your daughter’s uniform size,
etc.
Here are some Frequently Asked Questions regarding Winterball:
Q: Are the games always on Sundays?
A: Yes, winterball games consist of Sunday doubleheaders at either 9AM
and 11AM or 1PM and 3PM. The games will always be back-to-back, either
two in the AM or two in the PM.
Q: How often do winterball teams practice?
A: Some coaches will practice 1-2 times per week, other coaches don't
practice at all. It all depends on the coach.
Q: Does everybody play equally in winterball?
A: If playing recreational, yes, every player will play an equal amount
of time and will often get to play new positions because winterball is
designed to be developmental.
If playing Chaos, everyone will usually play as well, but in certain
circumstances (tournaments) a coach may choose to play more
competitively and some players may not play as much as others.
Q: What is the difference between recreational winterball and
chaos?
A: Winterball recreational games are generally more laid back and are
considered developmental.
Winterball
Chaos games are a bit more competitive. Chaos teams are by invitation
only, with each Chaos coach selecting his own team.
Q: I heard someone say that my daughter can "play up" or "play
down" in winterball. What does that mean?
A: An example of "playing up" would be if your daughter was a second
year 10U last season then she can "play up" at the 12U level for this
year's winterball.
An example of "playing down" would be if your daughter was a second year
10U last season then she can still "play down" at the 10U level for this
year's winterball. An advantage of this might be if your daughter's
skill level isn't quite ready for the jump to 12U and could use another
season of 10U ball for development.
"Playing up" or "playing down" applies to all divisions for girls who
have completed their second year in that division.
Q: How much travel is involved?
A: There will be some travel, but it is generally very local such as
Oceanside, La Costa, Encinitas or San Marcos. Of course, half of the
games will be at Calavera too! Chaos teams may travel a bit farther.
Q: What is the charge for winterball?
A: Winterball is $110, which includes a uniform (jersey). There is an
additional $30 charge for girls selected to play Chaos.
Q: How do we let someone know if my daughter has a preference
between Chaos and recreational?
A: Feel free to write your preference, if you have one, on your
application form when you register. But keep in mind that some girls
wanting Chaos may not get selected, and some girls preferring
recreational may have coaches begging them to play Chaos.
Q: Does my daughter have to play Chaos if she is selected by a
coach?
A: No, your daughter can choose to play recreational.
Q: My daughter ONLY wants to play Chaos. What if she isn't
selected?
A: First of all, all girls MUST BE REGISTERED in order to even be
considered by a Chaos coach, so don't sit at home waiting for the phone
call if you haven't registered your daughter. If not selected for Chaos
and your daughter doesn't want to play recreational, then you will
receive a full refund of your registration fee.
Q: We sometimes have other activities planned on Sunday, can we
miss some of the games?
A: This is generally not a problem with winterball, especially in
recreational, but some Chaos coaches may be slightly stricter in this
regard. For the most part, missing games is usually not a big problem.
Q: How long does the winterball season run?
A: Winterball starts in late August/early September and runs until
early-mid November.
Q: How are fall ball coaches picked?
A: All parents who submit coaching applications will be considered. The
winterball coaches will be selected by the CSA board shortly after
registration closes on August 4th.
Q: I'm thinking of coaching a winterball team, what should I do?
A: Come to one of the winterball registration dates and fill out a
coaching application, or contact Cristi Johnston at
csaplayersagent@sbcglobal.net.
Have in mind the division you want to coach and whether you would like
to coach recreational or chaos.
Coaches will be notified after August 4th.
